Hugh Gash has worked at St Patrick’s College, now part of Dublin City University, for over a generation. His enduring interest is in applying the constructivist epistemology. He has undertaken a series of research studies on children’s perceptions of "different others". This work includes work on gender stereotyping, children’s perceptions of others with a mental handicap, others with special needs, others from different countries - and indeed the children’s heroes.

His homepage with details on papers and publications is under renovation and can be found at: http://www.pollen.eu.org/english/hugh/Homepage.htm

He earned his PhD at the State University of New York at Buffalo in the Department of Educational Psychology in 1974 and he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Faculty of Education at SUNY at Buffalo in 2000. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow with Professor Charles Smock in the University of Georgia Follow Through Program from 1973-1975. He has taught also at the University of Georgia and the State University of California at Chico. At present he is Irish Director of two European Comenius projects: one on early learning difficulties, and the other is concerned with using digital technology in primary schools.
