Subject: Improve Science Scores

Babies, toddlers and young children learn to speak mostly on their own without consciously trying to learn vocabulary. They do this mostly by listening inattentively to family members and friends speaking. Learning occurs while children are playing and not paying attention to the conversing of their parents, siblings and friends.. The brain soaks up the vocabulary like a sponge. The children do not realize they are learning. They learn without paying attention to what is occurring around them.
I feel science vocabulary can reach children in a similar way. Latest research states that a child must hear a word more than one hundred times before the child knows the word. In my opinion students should be exposed to difficult science words in early elementary grades. Not so they know everything about the individual words but just that the students know how the words are pronounced and have begun to learn to spell the words correctly. We should not wait until they are in high school to begin teaching word recognition of science vocabulary. By high school they should be able to jump in running, connecting science words and concepts and learning as much as they can about everything in depth.
Many children by about twelve years old start turning off of math and science. A large majority of these are girls.
My approach to learning science vocabulary is somewhat fun in order to hold childrens' interest. My website for children to read better has some biology vocabulary which they learn without energetically trying to learn because they can focus on the fun part which is watching cartoon-animations. They can watch the cartoon-animations but not listen to them because they will be hearing only the science words. They hear and see the science words which are located at the bottom of the videos and are something like captioning. If you are interested in finding out more about my website please go to http://bio-.blip.tv

 Sincerely, Philip Wagner
