Sketching the interaction design of the Biosphera interface

Sketching the interaction design of the Biosphera interface, I tried to subdivide the interaction into different panes: a general control panel, a model definition window, a cumulative results window with a diachronic table.

Interface design

A couple of things to be incorporated in the interface:

  1. A control unit -> it is needed to control the variable’s status “in time”. It should distinguish between the simulation and the biosphera.
  2. A variable display -> it should show the status of variables in the system
  3. A simulation window -> it should show manipulation results on the variables
  4. A Timeline -> it should allow to navigate the story of the plant
  5. A model definition window -> it should set the parameters responsible for the growth of the “simulated” plant
  6. A cumulative results window -> it should visualize in a cumulative way the results  of the interaction between the variables

Biosphera dome sketches

I found a couple of techniques to realize the dome of the biosphera physical interface. Depending on the frequency of the faces, it is possible to define several geometry. I chose one that has only two different kinds of triangles (to keep it simple). The measures are reported in the picture.

Biosphera scenarios

Today I sketched some scenarios of usage for the biosphera interface. Typically the user can operate completely into the simulation, flicker between the simulation and the physical plant or work completely with the actual plant.
